Temporary Benefits

Temporary assistance is available to qualifying Veterans, their spouses, and widowed spouses.  The is no cost to the client for up to three months of temporary assistance. 

Shelter, food, transportation, utilities, medical, burial, assistance in filing for pension, service and non-service disability, social security benefits, and gaining admission to veteran's hospitals are available as temporary benefits.

Eligibility requirements are:

  • honorably discharged from the armed forces
  • served in active duty during the following dates:

World War I:  April 6, 1917 - November 11, 1918
World War II:  December 7, 1941 - December 31, 1946
Korean Conflict:  June 25, 1950 - January 31, 1955
Vietnam Conflict:  February 28, 1961 - May 7, 1975
Lebanon & Granada:  August 24, 1982 - July 31, 1984
Panama:  December 20, 1989 - January 31, 1990
Persian Gulf War:  August 2, 1990 - until rescinded by Congress

Assistance is determined by the following requirements:

  • Copy of discharge papers (DD-214)
  • Copy of marriage certificate
  • Copy of birth certificate for dependents under eighteen
