The Clinton County Conservation Board accepts applications for a variety of seasonal positions at many of our facilities. Seasonal staff positions can start as early as March and end as late as November depending upon the position. Wages for the 2007 season will range be very competitive. For the 2007 season, we anticipate hiring seasonal staff for the following titles:

• Seasonal Park Maintenance Workers
• Seasonal Roadside Workers
• Concession Workers

We also offer Educational, unpaid Internships for Environmental Education, Park Management and Roadside Management.

Campground Hosts - Eden Valley Refuge, Sherman Park, Walnut Grove and Rock Creek Marina. Hosts stay in the park for summer and assist people finding/registering camp sites and maintaining restrooms. They are paid $500 per season plus free camping.

Position:  Seasonal Park Maintenance Worker, several positions available  

Job Description: These are four- (4) month position starting in May.  The person(s) selected for this position will be based at Rock Creek Marina and Campground, Camanche, Iowa or Eden Valley Refuge, Baldwin, Iowa.  The person(s) hired for these positions will work under supervision of the Park Officer and Park Ranger.  The person(s) hired for these positions will gain knowledge and experience in park maintenance, park planning and day to day park operations.

Work Schedule:  40/hrs per week.  Must work all holidays and weekends.

Duties:  The person(s) hired may be asked to perform, but not limited to the following duties: Operate the following equipment: mower, weedeater, chainsaw, skid loader, tractor/backhoe and log splitter.  Operate four-wheel drive vehicles and motor boats.  The use of various hand tools is also required.  General maintenance to the campground, vehicles, equipment, buildings and rental boats as asked.  Work in extreme weather conditions. 

Qualifications:  Must be 18.  Must have valid driver’s license.  Working towards or have received a college degree in conservation, biology, recreation or related field preferred.  This position may be used for a college internship.

Position:  Seasonal Roadside Worker, several positions available  

Job Description: These are four- (4) month and six- (6) month positions. The four month positions will be primarily spraying roadside weeds, starting at various times April-July. The six month position will do roadside spraying and wildlife area management, starting in March running until September. The person(s) selected for these positions will be based at the Clinton County Conservation Headquarters, Grand Mound, Iowa .  The person(s) hired for these positions will work under supervision of the Roadside Biologist and Roadside Technician.  The person(s) hired for these positions will gain knowledge and experience in roadside vegetation management, weed spraying and wildlife area management.  

Work Schedule:  40/hrs per week.  Primarily weekdays  

Duties:  The person(s) hired may be asked to perform, but not limited to the following duties: Operate the following equipment: spraying equipment, trucks, ATVs and tractors .  The use of various hand tools is also required as is general maintenance to the vehicles, equipment, and buildings.  Work in extreme weather conditions.   

Qualifications:  Must be 18.  Must have valid driver’s license.  Working towards or have received a college degree in conservation, biology, recreation or related field preferred.  This position may be used for a college internship. Spray crew positions required Pesticide Applicators License on or shortly after start date.

Position:  Concession Worker, several positions available  

Job Description: Concessions workers at Rock Creek Marina and Campground.  This position(s) works up to 40hrs/week.  The concessions are open April-November. Position(s) are available from April to November and May to September.  

Duties:  Sales of store goods.  Light cooking.  Boat rentals.  Cabin rentals/reservations.  Camper registration.  Handling bait.  Balancing cash register drawer.  Light cleaning.  Promote the parks and recreational activities.  Answer phones.   

Qualifications:  Must have valid driver’s license.  Knowledge of cash register operations and Microsoft excel.  Be able to wait on several people at once.  Good public relation skills.
